This Week In Jeep:

Musical Chairs At FCA

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ iconic Jeep brand has a new leader in its most important market. Jim Morrison, who formerly led the Ram truck brand in North America, is now in charge of Jeep in North America. He takes over from Tim Kuniskis, who is shifting back to his former role overseeing passenger car brands such as Dodge and Chrysler in North America as well as maintaining his oversight of Alfa Romeo globally. Kuniskis, whose previous oversight of passenger cars involved the launch of the horsepower-heavy Dodge Demon, had been in charge of Jeep in North America only since October, when CEO Mike Manley announced numerous executive appointments. Morrison has previous experience with Jeep as director of brand product marketing and global coordination and has held a range of positions for the company in the U.S. and Canada over a more than 20-year career. What will this ultimately mean for the brand to us as consumers? Not much likely, as this is more of a move for the sake of upper management efficiency, and to fill the roles of a couple other executives retiring. In other words, we won’t be seeing Demon powered Wranglers from this anytime soon.

Jeep Cherokee – Top of the List

Most of you have undoubtedly at least heard of the website Cars.com even if you’ve never used their services yourself. Cars.com is a leading two-sided digital automotive marketplace that connects car shoppers with sellers. The site prides itself on being able to provide more relevant information to a seller, regarding the vehicle they’re looking to buy.  Since 2006, the website’s American-Made Index analyzes a range of factors to determine which new cars and trucks contribute more to the U.S. economy, regardless of where the manufacturer’s brand is headquartered. The American Made Index, or AMI considers five major factors to zero in on the economic impact of a given model: assembly location, domestic-parts content as determined by the American Automobile Labeling Act, engine sourcing, transmission sourcing and factory jobs provided by each automaker’s U.S. plants. By now you’re probably wondering what all this has to do with Jeep, and you’d be right to assume Jeep is on this list. In fact for the second year in a row, The Jeep Cherokee, has garnered the number one spot.  Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand in North America said in a recent press release about the announcement ((QUOTE)) “We salute the dedicated employees who build the Cherokee, the most capable midsize SUV on the planet, as well as all the loyal Jeep owners who drive it.”

I think this is a pretty cool honor for Jeep, especially as we roll into the 4th of July Holiday. So from all of us here at the show to all the folks at the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois where the Cherokee is made. Congratulations!

Tech Tip:

If you have a dent and are game to try to remove it yourself, you’ll need a hair dryer and an air duster (like you’d use to clean a computer keyboard with). Using the hair dryer, heat the dent for a good 30 to 60 seconds getting the area nice and warm. Then, holding the air duster upside down (and that’s the key to making this work), spray the dent for 10 seconds. Many dents will pop out in mere seconds.
